Rene is one of my oldest and dearest friends in the whole wide world. I say this with a huge smile because he is truly one of the most loyal friends any person can ever ask for, and I consider myself pretty damn lucky to have him around.

We met in high school but didn't actually get to know each other until my junior year in college, when we got together with a bunch of friends and started the first Asian American Association on campus. Despite the fact that we've been living in different cities since then, we've somehow managed to maintain a very close friendship throughout the years.

Our friendship goes something like this. The minute we see each other, he starts to smile, and there's something about HIS smile that makes ME smile. MY smile makes HIM laugh, and when HE laughs, I start to crack UP. And it just snowballs from there. The sarcasm and wit that flies between us is a constant element in our conversations, and even through emails it just comes right through. I pick on Rene ALL THE TIME, and he picks right back. I guess that's what makes being around him so much fun, and I always look forward to seeing him.

Rene has seen me go through more of my ups and downs than I even care to admit. And he's always been there for me whenever I needed him. They say that in one's lifetime we are lucky to have two or three really close friends. For me, amongst the boys, Rene is definitely one of them.
