Nelson and I first met in Taipei during the summer of 1990, along with a host of other people including Kirk J., Marissa G., Jim W., Mark G., Pauline L., Mitzi W. and others. He and I bonded when we took eleven people down to Kenting. We all met at a club and randomly decided to take a trip together. The only problem was that no one could read or speak Chinese, and Kenting was on the opposite end of the island.

Nelson and I spoke Chinese just slightly better than everyone else, but by the end of the trip, we were so much more fluent as the need to haggle our way from one point to the next forced us to become instant native Chinese speakers.

The comedy that transpired during that memorable weekend is a novel of its own, but suffice it to say that Nelson and I became pseudo parents to the rest of the gang whom I referred to as our 'children'. That was the best summer of my life.

Since then, Nelson and I saw each other in D.C., New York, and San Francisco before we both ended up back here as working professionals in Taipei. The funniest thing was how he hooked up with my friend Quynh, and now the two of them are married and living in the bay area. Nelson is one of the most dependable guys I know, and I fully trust him. Even with my MONEY. He's a must have!
