Mike H. and I first met when we were both working at Citibank Taiwan. He was on a temporary project from the Singapore office and I think I met him through Joann at the company gym (a rinky dink rooftop add-on). We just decided one day to go to China together for the hell of it and became great friends along the way. There's something to be said about friends who work well together on trips. One of these days, I'm planning to publish the journal that I kept while we were there.

Anyway, without sounding too passe, Mike is a very nice, a very smart, a very polite, and a very mature person, especially for someone his age (lol). We get along so well that I can hang out with him indefinitely and never get sick of him. He's GREAT.

Mike and I used to get together to play Scrabble all the time (SUCH GEEKS THAT WE WERE), and on a number of occasions we stayed after work to do so, after even everyone else left for the day.

There's something about playing one-on-one Scrabble with someone equally competitive but who has a balanced enough ego to handle both victory and defeat with grace. I know it sounds STUPID to say that I can tell a lot about people by the way they play Scrabble, but the fact is, I can. And the only person that I will play Scrabble with one-on-one is Mike, because he is who he is. Enough said.
