Gus is my site partner, and very good friend. Aside from sharing a common vision for ORIENTED, both of us appreciate the value of getting involved and of taking the initiative, when presented the opportunity to do so.

We may define it differently, as Gus would like to "help out" and I would like to "make an impact" (call me Ms. Drama Queen), but at the end of the day, it's exactly the same thing.

The thing is, it's not just about "doing something good" for the greater community. It's also about doing something good for ourselves. We had no idea where ORIENTED would take us when we first started, and even now we do not know what lies ahead. What we do know, however, is that the experiences we've had, the knowledge we've gained, and the friendships we've made thus far have been invaluable. We are THAT much better off because we tried.

Perhaps the best way for me to describe my relationship with Gus is to say this - that of all the things I have gained from my involvement with ORIENTED, the one thing I appreciate most is having the opportunity to work with him. Gus is one of the most talented, sincere, kind-hearted, and optimistic persons I've ever met in my entire life, not to mention funny. I am certain that all those that know him personally would wholeheartedly agree. Also, he is a true gentleman, which has been a godsend for someone with a personality like mine.

Gus and I are very close... but not
in the way that most people think.

We almost never hang out in social settings, and we seldom talk about personal things. Part of it is because ORIENTED, which we both took very seriously from the get go, came long before our friendship. And, we were conscious about keeping our personal lives separate just because we saw each other all the time. But the main reason, in my opinion, as to why we rarely hang out - and why building ORIENTED with him has been such a riot - is because our personalities are at opposite ends of the spectrum. Some of the conversations that take place between us would make you Laugh Out Loud...
