We first met in 1991 when we were both in Taipei for the summer to attend the infamous Loveboat (yes, we are that old). Evidently her mother and my mother were good friends of our godmother who didn't check with either of us before anointing us both her god-daughters, so there we were, two godsisters - one evil Canadian and one evil American - who had never met until then. But, I digress. The very first time we met, we became instant friends. In fact I don't think that's ever happened to me before or after Corrina. We made a pact that we would one day return to "live and work in Asia" together. Who knew that four years later, it would actually come true. Corrina studied in Beijing for a year before I came out to Taiwan, and by then she was working in Hong Kong.
Corrina and I have had our fair share of battles over the years, and believe me, there have been times when I thought we would never speak again. As real sisters - which we might as well be - it comes with the territory, and I am more than happy to duke it out with her as many times as it takes, if that means I get to keep her as a lifelong friend.
