Carol is one of my totally awesome girlfriends. She is hyper to the MAX, giggles like a hyena, spits on her colleagues when things go wrong and makes Ally McBeal seem like Gwenythe PALTROW. She is absolutely hysterical to be around and brings out all the neurosis I have in me. When she and I get together, everyone else needs to STAND BACK because in each other's presence we both go CRAZY. Bob, her brother, can atest to that. I first met Carol at one of Bob's gigs, but we really didn't start hanging out until we ran into each other one night and grabbed a cup of coffee.
That moment was to define our friendship forever. We decided to have brunch every Sunday for as long as we were both in Taiwan, and that we did for at least two years, determined to solve each other's problems. I was her "Christ". She was my "Wizard". During the week, we led completely separate lives. Our professions (she's an architect), our social circles, and our extracurricular activities barely overlapped. We seldom called each other during the week as Sunday brunch was understood. We frowned upon those who tried to join us.

We always called each other right at noon on Sundays to decide where to eat. After lunch, we'd spend the rest of the afternoon at Starbucks before heading off to our respective offices - neurotic women, of course, are also workaholics. After spending nine glorious years in Taipei, Carol finally headed for New York City at the end of 1999. Although it's been quite awhile since she left Taipei... I still miss her dearly on Sundays.
