"Shopping with Cindy..."
Cindy and I have this understanding. I know she loves to shop. She knows I hate to shop. But because I find her so entertaining, and because she KNOWS it, she often drags me to go shopping with her and doesn't feel guilty about it at all. LOL.
We both slept in until late and finally got out of the house to run some errands before lunch. Cindy took the day off just for me! AW SHUCKS. We called Nelson on the spur of the moment to see if he wanted to meet up for lunch since he also had a friend in town and lived close by. We ended up meeting at a really good Vietnamese restaurant in the area.
This was the initial conversation between him and me:
Him: "So, how was your flight?"
Me: "Not bad, kind of bumpy though."
Him: "Have you logged on to the net yet?"
Me: "Um. No..."
Him: "How come?"
Me: "Well... Cindy doesn't have Internet connection at home."
Him: "WHAT?!"
Me: "Yeah. She has got to be the only person in SILICON
VALLEY without Internet access at home."
Him: "DAYAM! Are... are you... okay?!"
I started cracking up big time. And so did Cindy. LOL!
Shopping in the U.S. during Christmas season is so cool. One can really feel the Christmas spirit! So different than "Christmas in Taiwan". Anyway, Cindy decided to buy herself a rice cooker (a humorous thought in and of itself) so I sat on one of the boxes and watched her perform her usual due diligence.
She began by opening up one of the boxes to inspect each component of the rice cooker for scratches, and that was cool. She's a slow motion kinda gal, so it was somewhat entertaining to watch her INSPECT the various pieces with such detail. She's anal and PROUD of it! But when I realized that she was opening up MORE boxes to mix and match the pieces, I was like,
"Girl! The #&*%! are you DOIN'?!"
She's like,
"SHUT UP Christine! I got this from my mom! Just HOLD ON!"
Sheesh. You don't want to be around me and Cindy when we start whippin' out our Southern ghetto drawl. It's kind of like the English version of the Taiwanese language in which people sound like they're really pissed off and cursing at each other (HO la HO la!) when actually they're not.
I crack myself up sometimes.
Per usual, we walked out of the mall with two huge bags of stuff, and all of it was HERS. At best, I was holding a cup of coffee that I bought while following Cindy around. I had to do something with myself, right?
LOL!
Cindy is such a sweetheart. She had organized a dinner with a bunch of people WEEKS beforehand, so we all met up for all-you-can-eat Korean BBQ at some place in the area. Nelson, Quynh, Brent, Jim, Martin, Anne, Justin, and Rich H. Cool beans!
And we met up with more people for drinks at (oh great, I forget the place again, good Christine). Harriet, Ann, Nelson, Betty, Sara, David, Pete Wang, Shinn, Bill, Kim, and --> Raymond, Eric, Amabelle , Adam and Rae! People I've only "known" online!
Special thanks to Adam for making a photo journal of the occasion (click here), but I have to say, it felt totally WEIRD being on the other side of the camera. BIZARRO! My spycam was barely working at the restaurant and was useless at the bar, so it was great that both Adam and Eric had their SUPER CAMERAS. Too bad I was lookin' like *bleep!*! Too tired man, too tired.
Catching up with everyone (and meeting the online folks) was really cool. I had a great time, hope everyone else did too. For anyone who happens to be reading this --> THANKS FOR COMING OUT. It was really great to see everyone!
In motion:
I'm off early in the morning for the East Coast, Eric is in Taiwan for Christmas and will hook up with the folks there, I don't get back to Taipei until Jan. 5th, and Nelson and Quynh are coming to visit 1/6-1/9 along with another online persona --> Sam, who's flying out to visit his mom. That's awesome!
