On this date last year...

"A good way to describe my day..."

After work, I spent quite some time cleaning off my desk and throwing a lot of junk away. Recognizing that my junk is often times Gus' treasure, I threw everything in a bag and took the stairway up to his floor, only to discover that the doors in the stairway were locked.

Great.

So there I was, all alone in the smokey stairway of the Taipei WTC, forced to walk all the way back down to the first floor to get to the elevators just to go all the way back up, with my bag of junk in hand. And all the while I kept thinking about those poor souls who were trapped in the stairways of the Twin Towers during the 9/11 attacks.

It's an entirely different scenario. I realize that. But still. That's what went through my mind. 'Twas a reflection of my entire day, if that tells you anything.

A friend of mine mentioned how glad he was that I finally posted an entry, and my only thought was, you've got to be kidding. My entries in the past few months have been so boorishly monochromatic, I can't imagine what people would find interesting about what I'm up to these days.

It's been hectic. I didn't even get a chance to write about the brunch on Saturday with the ORIENTED volunteers, or the CAPT semi-formal of Saturday night, which included a rather silly conversation I had with Welly Yang who apparently showed up at the last minute, one of Angela's guests.

 Me: "We've met before."

Him: "Oh really?!"

Me: "You met my mom, too."

Him: "I did?"

Me: "Not only did you meet her, you KISSED her."

Him: "I kissed your MOM?! Is she cute?"

 Me: "Unfortunately... she's not available."

Him: "That's too bad!"

And then he went on about how he was good friends with Wayne, Cayce, and Hubie from my hometown, family friends of mine, which naturally lead to a discussion about the whole grass-roots, Taiwanese movement in the U.S. way back in the 70's because their parents were very active back then. Welly asked me if I ever went to those Taiwanese family summer camps, to which I said,

"No Welly. Back then, one was blacklisted if you were involved ..."

And Welly smiled at me like there was no tomorrow. WELL OF COURSE HE KNOWS ABOUT THAT. Lordy lordy, what was I thinking?! Yet another example of my state of mind in recent days. I really do need to slow down.

It was funny as *bleep* though, you gotta admit. Me trying to tell Welly Yang -- the guy behind Making Tracks -- about the history of Taiwanese Americans in the U.S.

LOL!
