On this date last year...
"Too smart for my own good..."
Ever wonder what happened to a FRI (former romantic interest)? Oh come on. We all do it. The problem with me is that, I'm an Internet geek. And, I'm pretty aware of what's happening in the AA community both here and in the U.S., for whatever reason. Not to say that I know tons of people -- that is so not true though many people seem to think otherwise -- but I do try to keep my ear to the ground.
But I digress...
As I was saying, I use Evite for most of my event invitations -- and that ain't no big deal, right? -- but often times, I find myself STUDYING the list of invited guests from other events I've been "Evited" to, just for the heck of it, especially when they are hosted by Asian Americans for Asian Americans.
And from a mere 5-minute glance... I sure do learn a lot about who is friends with whom these days (by responses like "thanks so-and-so for the invite!") ... who is now working where (via the email address of name@company.com) ... as well as... what new "endeavor" a FRI may have started since the last time we spoke, just by his first name. Particularly if it's not all that common.
What happened was this...
So I get an Evite (along with 2,500+ others) for the "2002 New Year's: Classic Hollywood Glamour" from the "Private Event 2002 Executive Producers", an informal group of Asian Americans in the bay area who I happen to know are associated with a particular FRI, as in, the latter advertises with the former.
Evite has a search function, so I did a quick search. I found a probable email address but didn't recognize the company name so I visited the URL, and the URL forwarded to his old company, that which I am so very familiar with (or was). And naturally, being the compulsive "curious cat" that I am, I took it one step further and did a "WhoIs" search on Network Solutions.
In less than a minute... I not only know the name of his latest endeavor, I also have his current contact information without even lifting a finger, so to speak. All from a random (or not) invitation to a New Year's bash in San Francisco.
I scare myself sometimes.
LOL!
Granted, if I really wanted to know what he was up to these days, I could simply ask any number of our mutual friends. But then again, why would I? Sometimes I do things (such as the above...) just because I can, which is why today's subject heading is what it is.
Does he read my site?
Probably. I've never checked my log files so I can't know for sure (um, dunno how and don't care enough to try and figure it out, at least not for my personal site), but the one thing I am certain of is this -- this particular, former romantic interest of mine is as much a compulsive, "curious cat" as I.
That... we have in common.
And in other news...
I'm done with my financial analyses... finally. Never thought I'd see the day. Now I'm just packaging it all up, checking it twice, passing it on to others for review and will be spending the next few weeks really digging into my contacts before I leave Taipei, for money.
Wish me luck.
