"On Art, Culture, and..."

Ever wonder what lies behind the gates of the mysterious compound on Kwang-Fu, just north of the Chung-Hsiao East Road intersection? That is the old Song Shan Tobacco Factory, the grounds of which have been closed off to the public for many, many years.

This week, it's the location of the 4th Annual Taipei Arts Festival, and the big events commence this very evening at 7 p.m., with your host, Patrick Chen, at the helm. SO CRAZY, eh?! I got to see the "behind the scenes" preparations last night on site and was blown away by what I saw... it was breaktaking. Although smaller in scale, it reminded me of the Night Safari in Singapore, sans the wild animals. You would never know you were in the heart of Taipei City...

The 4th Taipei Art Festival, with its
           main theme "Art * Temple * Con-Tempo",
           combines international and local ideas.
           Traditional temple activities will be
presented in a modern way in order to
help participants gain a better under-
standing of the aspects of literature,
           music, theater, dance, and architec-
ture contained in these ancient ritu-
als. This event will give the specta-
tors a deeper understanding of temple
practices in a relaxed and joyful way.

See you folks there.
