"Catching up..."

Alllllllllllllright! Need to keep up with my journal entries. At some point I want to redesign this format to include sections for ORIENTED updates, the Taipei social scene, job market and regional news commentaries/links, and interesting happenings in the virtual community. These are the topics I seem to focus on most on my personal site, but so far my missives have been random at best.

Need to make sense of things!

I wished I had more time to focus on "the new war" because I certainly READ UP ON IT A LOT and find myself talking about it constantly. I just never have the time to put my thoughts down here without it sounding like total gibberish or it taking up a LOT of my time. Am thankful that Raymond can fill that gap for me. He makes sense of things a lot more than I do, that's for sure! It's much appreciated.

I'm sure I'm not alone when I say that the news didn't really used to interest me. I'd read up on occasion, but since the U.S. attacks, I've become a freakin' news junkie, so much so that I set up a news resource placeholder page for the .COM site. Gus had set up a Moreover news page before but we just never got around to rolling it out (and of course I can't seem to find it now, duh). So that's that.

Specifically for the folks I played MJ with last night, from today's CNN coverage, a quote by Mullah Mohammed Omar, the Taliban's supreme leader:

"You, the Muslims of the world,
who are watching with your own
          eyes live pictures of atroci-
          ties on your Muslim brothers,
and you don't make a move?"
Omar said. "Are some of you on
the side of the infidels, or
          are you with us?"

"Change."

Speaking of Gus... he's finally resigned from his part-time position as editor upstairs. It was a long-time coming, I'm surprised he's lasted this long with all that he is trying to handle (b-school in Singapore, helping his family back in the Philippines, ORIENTED and other projects in Taiwan, and MORE!). This gives him more time to focus on ORIENTED, yes, but it's going to be weird not seeing him around the building (sad).

He stopped by on Friday for a little chit chat and I took these photos of him. Cracks me up because the first shot is a CLASSIC. He rolls his eyes EXACTLY LIKE THAT every time I whip out my camera to take a photo of him, and yet he cooperates nonetheless and even THANKS ME after I'm done, each and every time! It's funny. "Thanks Chris". I still can't decide if he's just being his usual polite self or if he's being sarcastic.

"Sandin's birthday!"

Everyone came out Friday night for Sandin's birthday and had a GREAT time. At first it was a bit chaotic because we had to change venues at the very last minute -- Organo was way too crowded and we didn't make prior reservations -- but since everyone had cell phones, and though we all looked RIDICULOUS standing on the streets calling people (so tacky), we moved the crowd over. Hilarious! Here's a picture I took of Sandin a few months ago:

I didn't even recognize half the people but it was fun. Met a guy from L.A. named NEWTON who kepted splashing coffee on me. (I guess what goes around really does come around eh?) Per usual I was unable to take night photos with my pencam... oh well. Maybe one day I'll go out and get a REAL digital -- when they get as small as my pencam! LOL!

"Last but not least..."

WOW. Long entry! So yesterday I worked on the Email Bulletin, my business plan, and various other things, and then had dinner with Shinn and Rene's former colleague from Shockwave, Bill Ko, his brother Phil, their friends Grace and Kelly (yep you read that right) and of course Acer Ginny, who knew Shinn from Seattle. A forever long story about a very small world. 'Twas FUN.

Bill discovered for the both of us that my HeyChristine.com business cards are, errr... waterproof. HOW FUNNY IS THAT. LOL! He kept pouring water on the card to show everyone at the table how 'waterproof' it is. Who knew?

Actually, that I have a personal site, and that I have BUSINESS CARDS for my personal site, in my humble opinion, is the wave of the future. No longer are we identified by the corporations we work for but rather, by the person that we are. Don't we try and express that -- however poorly -- in our resumes? Personal sites need not be of daily journals or blogs, but they certainly can help people to find you (your network) or to know more about you (potential employers, business partners, etc.). AND. The domain name should be as straightforward as possible.

Put it this way. These days, if anyone wants me to help them circulate his/her resume, I will only agree to do so if I have a URL link to refer to, i.e., the resume needs to be posted online somewhere. I dislike receiving attachments, and I dislike sending them. So that's that.

Went to Flora's and had a NEVER ENDING MJ SESSION with her, Patty, and Jay. Barbara came for a little bit but left around midnight. We were SO tired by the final round that we started picking cards from the wrong places, going in the wrong direction, and unable to calculate the points correctly. At one point, Flora was even experiencing blurred vision. LOL! That is one fun game.

Oh yeah. Almost forgot to mention. Flora bought a new MJ table last night at the nearby night market for (only!) NT$650 which we had to carry back to her place, looking RIDICULOUS all the while, lugging that thing down the streets of Taipei.

Only in Taiwan... LOL!

Anyways. I just reread this entry. All things considered... my life is pretty darn good. Need to remind myself of that from time to time. 'Course, it would be nice to have a husband, three kids, a personal assistant (that which I need *most* in my life, lol...) and a house or two or three, but what the heck.

Can't be too greedy. Si?
