On this date last year...

"Now what am I doing here?"

As promised, a brief recap of the CAPT Social Hour that I went to last night with Bill way out in the middle of nowhere (Sung Chiang Road to be exact, lol...). Ran into some folks that I hadn't seen in a really long time like Joe Fye and Jay Wu. Jay has been stationed in Kaohsiung for almost half a year (?) so I haven't seen nor heard from him FOREVER although he said he reads my site regularly!

Awesome!

When I asked what he thought of life in Kaohsiung, he replied, "Oh you know how it is... things are a bit slower... people are friendlier... in a way, Taipei is like New York City and Kaohsiung is like the bay area..."

That's when I knew that Jay had been in Kaohsiung for far too long and needed to get his #&*% back to Taipei asap.

LOL!

I also ran into Hubie Yang whom I haven't seen in awhile either. The funny thing was, he confessed to having a CRUSH on me when we were younger just as I was confessing to having a crush on his older BROTHER! We grew up together, our parents knowing each other even before Hubie was born... scary... and oh the things we learn about each other as we get older... lol...

Anyway... afterwards Bill and I went to grab dinner at what was once one of my favorite Italian restaurants in Taipei. Unfortunately, service was so bad that even I (Ms. Community Builder) didn't attempt to assuage the situation when things got heated between Bill and the management.

I'll let Bill give the assorted details...

"Friday night at Chillhouse..."

Today was one of those days where, try as I might, finishing the OHH Summary Report for July just wasn't going to happen. When I lost my draft TWICE in the same hour, I knew that either a) God was telling me to give it up, or b) Jerry put in new security features without informing his Yahoo email users again.

Anyway, after work, I met up with Jason Ray and Miranda Chin of the American Chamber of Commerce, Taipei, to discuss a possible joint Happy Hour with ORIENTED. 'Twas somewhat of a personal milestone for me as I have always, al-
ways, wanted to collaborate with AmCham on a more formal level (as both Chair of CAPT and Co-Founder of ORIENTED) but never had an appropriate forum to do so, at least not until now.

It was nice to speak with them both and INCREDIBLY refreshing to listen to Jason's Southern accent. Jason is also from the South, but he speaks with that charming, classic accent, different from the way I speak because I tend to talk faster. Jason used to live right across the STREET from the tennis courts of my old neighborhood and that piece of information totally blew us BOTH away.

The world is just too small, I say.

After our meeting, we stopped into CHILLHOUSE -- Andrea's brand new bar & restaurant and the venue for our next Happy Hour. GOOD FOR HER. She's been working on getting that restaurant open for quite some time now so it was great to see so many people there, and the crowds kept coming!

It's right on the corner of An-Ho and Jen-Ai so check it out if you get a chance.

Meanwhile, I also met Steven Hong for the very first time in my life, one of the original founders of CAPT back in 1992 whom I had heard so much about, and who is apparently friends with Jason. Wow...
