"Golf With Big Tom..."

Inevitably towards the end of the week in Taipei, SOMEBODY will send out an email of a more "non-professional" nature to the masses and stir something up for the weekend. It ain't a bad thing.

Invitations for Tommy's going away party on Saturday went out earlier this week which I unfortunately won't be able to attend, but this morning, he had something more to say. Copied to every single person in his address book, he wrote:

(sorry for sending this message when i know some of
you can't make golf, since you are in another coun-
try, but i don't want to sift through this list.)

(for those of you who do receive this and don't play
golf, AND know someone NOT on the email list that
might want to play golf, forward this mail to them.
  THE MORE THE MERRIER!)

Okay, let's start this email. I will be making re-
servations for golf on Monday. I know that this may
be short notice, but try to take Monday off.

Wayne and I are definitely in, Ted is a maybe.

  Details as follows:

  Tee Time:

Monday Afternoon (come on. take off Monday after-
noon. the economy is in the shitter and you can't
do anything about it, unless you are the KMT [most
of you are DPP anyway, so no chance of that], so
you might as well take a break and relax.)

  COURSE:
  Ba Li International Golf Club.

  COST: *
  Greens Fees: 1500 NT
  Caddy: 600 - 700 NT
  * This is estimated. I will confirm the price
later, but I need to know how many people want
  to come.

  Please reply before noon.

  Thanks,

  Tom
Unreal. Truly unreal. We'll miss him. LOL. I'm heading out-of-town tonight to join the family for the long-awaited reunion and may or may not update my site until I get back into town on Monday? Monday or Tuesday, something like that. I kinda want to keep my laptop at home and not think about emails, work, etc. for a few days. I could use a little mini-break. We'll see what happens.

Let's not talk about politics okay?

I met up with Albert Y., Bob and Mingson for lunch today. It was too much fun. Albert just got his MBA at MIT and is in town visiting relatives before taking a trip into the Mainland. He was the one who introduced me to Razorfish David, my old housemate of earlier this year.

These guys were one of the very first people I met when I first moved to Taipei in 1995, as Bob and Albert threw some of THE very best parties in town. It's hard to believe that so much time has passed. Kind of weird that we find ourselves here today and yet I should be used to this by now.

I was telling Albert how ironic this journal entry is going to be since I was adding Tommy's DPP-ridden email above. And the reason why is because Albert's great grandfather is Yu Yo-Ren, the former KMT head of the Control Yuan whose statue used to stand at the Jen-Ai Circle, just before the DPP came into power.

Poor Albert... after his great grandfather's statue was removed from the circle to a remote location somewhere outside the city, Albert had taken a weekend trip there to check it out. He finally found it on the top of this mountain but freaked when he discovered that it's head had been knocked off! Could it have been... TOMMY who did it?! Gasp!

Okay let's not talk about politics.
