Wednesday, May 30th Doing the tourist thing in Seattle... I got up at exactly 10:30 a.m. this morning and thought, OH S***! Eyee is supposed to be here like RIGHT NOW. I managed to get ready just before she rang the doorbell.
![]() Eyee and Janet (who met us downtown) showed me around the city. What a life, eh? Eyee happens to be in-between projects (health care consultant), and Janet is just now starting her job search, so it worked out that they had the time to hang out with me. COOL BEANS.

We walked around 5th Avenue (I THINK that's where we were) and went down to the Pike Place Market. The weather was absolutely gorgeous. It has been consistently so since I got here... so where is the RAIN I keep hearing about?!
The three of us had lunch at this sandwich shop where I got myself an awesome REUBEN. And we talked a lot about --> China. Who ISN'T talking about China these days?! I almost flicked Eyee in the forehead when she said that she and Mike would LOVE to move out to SHANGHAI sometime. Gods! Can I not get away from hearing that?! Flick flick flick!
![]() We also talked about how awesome is it to be of Chinese descent, now more than ever in modern history. Sounds fluffy, but being "Chinese" was not always in our favor, especially growing up in the U.S. in the 70s and 80s. But with the economic tides turning towards the other side of the Pacific, being of Chinese descent takes on a whole new meaning. I may or may not move to Shanghai in the near future, but, I know that I always can later on. Shanghai will be an economic powerhouse for many years to come -- supposedly one of the top five most important cities in the world within a few years -- and I will always be Chinese, as far as I can tell. Am I an opportunist? Why, YES I AM. So shoot me!
![]() ANYWAY. On a lighter note (ahem... yes, I am much too serious of a person), we fell upon some guys singing a cappella on the street curb. See above. They're fixtures of the Pike Place Market, according to Albert. I was totally endeared to them and could have stayed there for the rest of the afternoon listening to them go at it. Couldn't stop smiling. Even more amusing was this white guy trying to dance to the beat. The only problem was that the poor boy didn't have an ounce of rhythm in him. Sad... but funny as hell. That guy was definitely happy about SOMETHING. You go boy! I went a little camera happy...
![]() View / Post Comments Eyee dropped me off a little after 4 p.m. Albert had to take off to meet a friend in the city, so I hung around the house and tried to get some work done before dinner. ORIENTED seems to be kicking in, and that's a good thing. Unfortunately, I've been hard pressed for time to really go into the finer details with Gus back in Taiwan. He's probably wanting to kill me right now but there are just certain things I dislike doing over email, especially when I am not in the appropriate environs to focus on "work". It's been tough. Anyway, later on that night we met up with "PassingThru" for dinner, a mutual friend of ours who wishes to remain anonymous. That's cool, but I have to call him SOMETHING, so I call him PT. Not BT, as in British Telecom or the Mandarin word for a BOOGER (sorry, can't control myself sometimes...) PT and I met many years ago through mutual friends in New York and in D.C. He was just in Taipei a few months ago visiting relatives, so in total I have seen him in at least four different cities across the board.
PT, per usual, was funny as hell. I think it's in his eyes (mischievious). We had Japanese food (very good stuff), and afterwards I went over to his place to check out his pod on the water. PT's place is really sweet. We had fun.
