"Taking a lil' break..."

It's Labor Day, a national holiday over here in Taipei, and I'm at the office along with just about everyone else.

At my work work, I support about 60-70 local staff, and we have a series of international awards ceremonies taking place this week, so I'm here in case they need me and in the meantime am trying to catch up with the things we need to get done with the happy hours at ORIENTED.COM.

We -- okay I -- am so behind myself, it's not even funny.

Upcoming Happy Hours are outdated, our Photo Album is not done though looking awfully nice, am waiting on Gus to teach me how to create a new banner zone because I have no idea how (gads), need to fix the design of the Newsletter which was supposed to go out on Monday, who knows how long that will take, then I need to write it up and test it again (ugh) before I can actually send it out. And I was supposed to have reviewed and submitted both the Subscription and Shareholders' Agreements to my lawyer two days ago for editing and distribution.

And yet here I am writing up a journal entry.

Let's just say that I need a break... and this is it. Just wanted to mention three things before I get too focused on the above.

"In the press..."

The first is that ORIENTED got featured on the top section of the Taiwan News yesterday, on page 9. David Schnell, the editor there (who also happens to be Member #58 of our Discussion Forums...), called us late Monday evening for a feature. We of course will take what we can get (lol) and indeed, it was a very nice write-up about us.

Officially, it's the very first article about ORIENTED ever published in an English newspaper here in Taipei, since our inception in 1999. We of course never had enough resources to focus on PR/marketing except through word-of-mouth, so we appreciate whatever additional exposure we can get. 'Twas a pleasant event and came at a good time.

"Green, Sour and ORIENTED..."

The second thing I wanted to mention was what our team in Beijing did to kickoff their first Happy Hour last week, and that is, they actually developed ORIENTED-branded mixed drinks for their guests! And here they are:

  • ORIENTED Express

"A refreshing blend of gin, cherry brandy, orange juice and ginger ale served in a highball glass over a tower of ice cubes."

  • Green, Sour and ORIENTED

"The Green, Sour and ORIENTED longdrink combines vodka and the pleasantly sweet taste of Midori melon liquor with the tangy zest of lime and lemon juice. It's like there's a party in your mouth, and everyone's invited!"

  • ORIENTED Monster Martini

"ORIENTED Beijing's unique martini concoction, the ORIENTED Monster Martini blends vodka, gin, and sweet vermouth to create a dry and tasty martini. Served chilled and over an olive."

Boy. When I said "have fun with this guys!", I had no idea they were going to have THIS much fun, lol! It just cracks me up every time I think about it. They also got the bar manager to agree to give away 50 free drinks coupons, which could only be used for the ORIENTED mixed drinks to further brand the name.

Our regional teams are terrific. I wasn't kidding when I wrote, "... the ORIENTED Happy Hours are organized by a group of outstanding young professionals..." in the About Us page of the site, and I'm really proud to be associated with them. I only wished I could share with my HeyChristine.com audience the internal event write-ups that were submitted from last week's round.

Great job.

"Speaking of exposure..."

The last thing I wanted to mention was... I think I went on an unplanned date last night. Mr. Cutie from upstairs called up yesterday afternoon, and had he not told me that today was a national holiday, I would have never known, but I digress... I was planning on working into the midnight hour, but I ended up having dinner with him instead and then we went to the golf range out past Dong-Hu.

I like him.

A bit on the serious side, but that's cool.

I also discovered that he dislikes public exposure --> to the nth degree. I have no idea if and when and *how* I'm ever going to tell him about this personal website of mine and the many purposes behind it (oh dear... lol...), but the point is... this shall be the last time I mention him here.

May the force be with me.

Don't laugh.
