On this date last year...
"Legal Matters..."
OH... BOEY. Last two weeks I felt like I was in a Business Finance class. This week, I feel like I'm in freaking LAW SCHOOL! And we've only TOUCHED on areas of liability with respect to user postings on a website, which may or may not vary depending on the governing laws (US, ROC, PRC, etc.). Can't wait to delve into the finer details of company registration and tax regulations!
YAY!
... not.
Oh well. I have to admit, it's muy interesante. And since it's Mike who is holding my hand in this area, I'm in good hands. Get it? Holding hands, in good hands? Okay never mind. LOL! And yes, his executive chair is still squeaky so again, I cannot but LOL!
Anyway, some miscellany of the day:
- We had our company wei-ya (year-end party) last night and the central theme this year was, "The economy is down, and so is tonight's dinner budget." Need I say more?
- Ever since Wennie left me, I've had a hard time remembering that I need to get something to eat for lunch. That is no bueno.
- My really old Yahoo account got totally wiped out. Evidently Yahoo "cleans house" for accounts that haven't been active for 4 months. Oh well!
Anyway, my main objective today was to gather all of my applicable contact data, group them into two lists -- those that fit my investor profile, and those who could REFER me to people that fit my investor profile -- and then prioritize them by probability.
So first, I created two columns in Excel and went through every single one of my address books -- my cell phone, my PDA, all of my email accounts, old and new, my business cards, etc. -- and filled in every single name that I thought might be applicable, and at random.
WOAH.
Next, I made a Key Chart with the following categories:
- Very probable
- Possible
- Shot in the dark
- In desperate times... (lol)
- Not in town
With the above categories and in a separate column in my Excel spreadsheet, I assigned a number to each individual, sorted the data by category, re-evaluated each person's category again relative to each other and sorted the data AGAIN until I came up with an "Investor vs. Resource" matrix that to me, made an awful lot of sense. Now I know who I should be contacting first.
If I can't raise the rest of the money through these two lists, then I don't deserve to be Founder of ORIENTED.COM. Then again... if I can't raise the rest of the money... there won't BE an oriented.com... lol!
Though the money I've raised so far was so EASY to get (an accident is more like it), I won't be able to relax until I get the rest of it and expect the next few weeks outside of Chinese New Years to be quite CHALLENGING. Nonetheless... given the incredible response so far, I have full confidence that it can be done.
Okay. Let me backtrack.
NOTHING COMES EASY.
It has taken me *HOW* long to get to this stage? Gods I don't even want to think about it. The reason I have been SO excited these past few weeks is because for the very first time in the ENTIRE time I've been working on ORIENTED -- changing the b-plan, the screen shots, and the financials twenty five thousand times while the markets went full circle -- I finally get to PITCH.
Now the REAL fun begins, si?
Wennie stopped by the office today, and tonight we're getting a facial together with Andrea, Frank, and Sandin. And guess who's giving us the facial? LOL!
