So last night...

I was running late and ended up not having time to run home before heading for the airport to greet Mom who was flying in from Tokyo. The last time she came to visit, I didn't greet her at the airport and really regretted that. Although she says she really doesn't care either way (and I believe her), somehow, not greeting family members and close friends at the airport seems wrong. Lesson learned and I won't be doing that again if I can help it.

Uncle James was there too with his car, and he drove us to Wypoh's. She was obviously very happy to see Mom. Always an endearing moment to watch. Wypoh is going to be 80-years-old this summer, can't wait to see ALL the relatives who will be flying in from all over for the occasion. I did my own thing while they all gabbed, and this morning I ran to get my haircut before heading back for Taipei.

Chinese New Year ceremonies don't actually being for a few days when all the relatives in Taiwan converge to Wypoh's, and since I'll be spending at least three or four days there this weekend, I figured I should come back and take care of some things including tomorrow's EB, so here I am. Looks like I'll be launching this site tomorrow. I am very excited but a little too tired to really feel it. It will be nice to relax for awhile and do nothing.

Am looking forward to it.

Hanging out with the roommie...

At night, I was reviewing some paperwork in the living room when Adella came home. We ended up talking for quite awhile about old friends back in the States and her new students which recently she seems to be signing up non-stop. Adella is such a sweet, thoughtful, and WELL-BALANCED person. These days it's so unusual to meet people like that. I feel pretty lucky to have her as a roommate. She was spicing up her room while we were talking, hanging up neat things on her walls which I will have to get pictures of later. It was fun.

I was also telling her about how awed I've been with the recent news, on the Clintons departure from the White House, the Bushes moving in, the peaceful transition, the Rev. Jesse Jackson's 20-month-old daughter whom he and the "mother of the child love very much", as well as the overthrow of President Estrada, which Gus is getting to witness first hand as I write this.

I have never been politically active and didn't even vote this last time (so shoot me), but I think what I'm so awed by is the wealth of information that I have via the Internet, that which was not available to me in the previous U.S. Presidential elections to the extent that it is today. Let's see. 1996 in Taiwan. The Internet barely existed back then! If nothing else, all of this information is increasing my interest in POLITICS, a topic that I really didn't care for in the past. Either that or I'm finally GROWING UP.

Nah. Must be the former.

Also, I got a call tonight from Richard who is also in town for Chinese New Year, and Nelson whom I didn't get to see this last time I was back in San Francisco. He and Quynh were in Hawaii at the time. Looking forward to catching up them both. Man. I am BEAT.
