I thought your site was interesting till I read your comments on registration.

Registration to prevent dreaded Trollers. The web used to be a place where you could be anonymous. I guess your creating your own personal web where all your friends can get together and say nice things that don't offend anyone. Ha Ha
That's not Utopia that's death.

By the way Trollers click ads. This one won't be clicking yours.

Why would I want anyone to be offensive, anywhere?

And...

Did I ever commit to creating Utopia? You give me way too much credit.

And...

Isn't this my personal site were I get to dictate the rules?

And...

That's too bad about not clicking on my ads. All but one (Yahoo) are of worthy non-profit community organizations or publications which I want to help promote.

Let me know when you find your Utopia.

Hi Christine,
Since I was away in HK for the wkend, it was great reading your journal to find out on what I "missed" this past wkend! Sounds like you guys had a lot of fun! I really thought Millie's comment about you was funny!... Of course you've dated people in TW, but you've managed to keep it pretty quiet... althought who could have missed all the fact that Walsh and you were all over each other at the CAPT Xmas party 2 yrs ago?

Hi, Christine! Joe is an online journaling neophyte and called me (alarmed) when he saw your page. He read the part about chocolates and said, "what does that MEAN?" hehehe. Very funny. :)

By the way, ladies... he's like 6' tall, and lives in San Francisco and New York (will be bi-coastal soon). :)

My name is Mary & I work in NYC, 2 blocks from WTC...I would say we are wowed by the loving sympathy, concern of those who are so far away...You are close in our hearts. Please know you are responding in a wonderful human way,yes you are a few days behind,,, Many New Yorkers have returned back to work with a renewed sense of purpose. Many are angry too: we'll channel it into building stronger lives.Everyone should start LIVING FULLY *NO EXCUSES *
My company supports the NY stock market, so I have to walk pass the cordoned off area every morning and night...I stop & pray for everyone who is upset by this- Yes all our hearts stop for a very long moment.
We then breath deep, go into our offices & get back into our lives. We will not be defeated..we have to keep our lives moving forward. Many people are laughing & joking & lifting their spirits high already.
Christine Thanks! You site it's marvelous. I enjoy your positive outlook! Thank you, Mary C

Why not go to war? The statement in itself doesn't say against whom, therefore it does not necessarily oppress innocent people.

If Bush says he is going to war against terrorists, and is going to send in a Delta team to wreak havoc on terrorist training camps in the mountains of Afghanistan, and anyone that dares to support them, then I say God Bless. Seems the rest of the world feels the same way, as Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates have withdrawn recognition of the Taliban regime which has been sponsoring terrorism, leaving Pakistan as the only country that recognizes them. (This makes the ROC look like an international giant by comparison!) This may be a necessary if distasteful role for Pakistan anyway, as they have so man Afghan refugees and also may have a role to play in communications and negotations. In the meantime, why is it that every nation in NATO, every nation in the UN Security Council, including China and Russia are showing such solidarity.

Don't get me wrong. I believe in peace, especially among those who desire peace. But I also believe in war, as a way to preserve that peace. It's easy to think of all the horrible things that have come about from war. Think for a moment of the good things. Why is it that the villagers of Normandy love Americans, or that Canadians are still welcomed as heros in Holland? Because we liberated them from Nazism. It's too bad that we didn't have the conviction to make war against bloodthirsty machete-wielding, church-storming mobs in Rwanda. Who knows how many lives would have been saved if the nations of the world showed an equal amount of solidarity ten years ago and all sent troops to force a peace. Pax Romana is better than no peace at all.

In the meantime, we can rest assured that while Osama's targeting of civilians was considered a victory by him and his followers, occurences of deliberate targetting of civilians, such as the Mai Lai Massacre in Vietnam, or the infamous Bridge massacre in Korea during the war there have (rightly) been considered a source of shame by Americans. I can think of no other nation that acknowledges its mistakes as readily as Americans nor of any military that goes to such lengths to avoid civilian deaths. Lets face it, when the Serbs kicked all of the native Kosovars out of Kosovo with death as the only alternative, the Americans waged one of the most sanitized wars one can imagine. If you go to those same cities now, they all revile their former leader Slobodan Milosevic, and express great understanding towards the US and NATO. In fact, their biggest complaint is that foreign investment from the countries that attacked them is still proceeding too cautiously. They want more of the west, not less.

Like Bush and the Russians have said, It's time to drain the swamp.

Christine,

I think it's great that you know what you want, though sometimes it's hard to give up some really good opportunities!
Yet as long as you are going down your own path, opportunities will always be coming your way.
Hang in there girl, you're doing great!

Interesting to see that you are planning to goto China. Not sure whether you stated your intentions or reasoning in your journal. The reason for my curiosity is that I am greatly sadden by the motives of people moving to China.

Not going to bore you with the lengthy version but I believe many are going there to "rape" the country. A place they have no loyalty to and where they have no intention of respecting the local culture. Sort of like what happened in Hong Kong all these years.

The worst aspect of it, it is being done by people I regard as Chinese (but who only regard themselves as Chinese when it suits them, otherwise they are just American, Canadian, English etc.)

What I really want to say...
Look in the mirror and remember that you are Chinese. Try to help the land of your ancestors to prosper in your endevours. Don't just be another "white" expat that take and don't give. Don't look down on the people or the place just because it's different from you were bought up. Remember that it is offering you a far better opportunity than the place that you grew up.

Hope you will make it a Win-Win for you and for the country.

Thanks for your post. I have to bring this back down to the basic level and say that for me and many of my peers (i.e. single young professionals), we tend to go where the economy is booming and not the other way around.

Simply put, it's about building our careers.

It's not about national pride (or lack thereof), raping of a city or country, etc. Maybe the argument can be made of foreign firms entering the region, but I tire of people who accuse those going into China of ill intent.

If it's NYC that's booming, it's NYC. If it's Silicon Valley, then it's Silicon Valley. If it's Shanghai, then we go. That booming cities are attracting enthusiastic, bright young minds is a good thing.

I could also turn it around and point fingers at all the Chinese and Taiwanese immigrants who moved to North America for a better life, job and business opportunity back in the 60s and 70s.

Some even gave up their citizenship to do so.
